Claro (Telecom Américas)

Claro (Telecom Américas) is the subsidiary of América Móvil to Brazil.

 

América Telecom (old Carso Global Telecom), owned by Carlos Slim, controls America Movil and Telmex, main fixed telephony operator in Mexico (gotten by Embratel).

Claro Technologies

 

Claro's Band B operators, originally operated with TDMA Technology.

 

Claro also offers the service with GSM technology using the subband extension. Claro acquired to all Band B operators frequencies in the subband extension of 900 and 1800 MHz. To check the frequencies click here.

 

Claro offers data services through its GSM network using the technology

GPRS. In August-2004, Claro announced that will be also offering EDGE to the States of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. Consult Teleco's section Cellular Technologies.

 

 

Fixed Telephony

 

Claro also has authorization to work in Long Distance National and International in the whole Brazil. (Code of the operators: 36). Claro desactivated CSP 36 in 06/30/2005, starting to recommend 21 Embratel.

 

Telmex got the control of Embratel in july 2004.

Claro got in 09/21/2004 the license to Band E in Minas Gerais, except the region attended by Triângulo Celular in Minas Gerais, gotten by Telemig Celular. The term of authorization was signed in april of 2005.

Claro in MG

  • Claro had gotten in 09/21/2004, through Stemar, license to Band E in Minas Gerais, except on CTBC Celular regions in Minas Gerais, gotten by Telemig Celular.
  • Claro started in November of 2005 to operate in Minas Gerais, offering pre-paid service.
  • According to petition gotten by Telemig Celular, Claro stopped its sellings to new clients and on 11/25 the network operation. The petition was given because of Telos, private providence by Embratel ( same Claro group), to be shareholder of Telemig Celular.
  • In 11/28/05 Anatel approved the stock transfer that Telos had in Telemig Celular to Angra Partners Consultoria and Claro started over to operate in 11/10/05. In 12/19/05 the operation was suspended by justice petition. In 12/22/05 Claro started to operate again.
