Anatel

 

Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações (Anatel) is the Telecommunication regulating agency in Brazil. It was established by the Telecommunication General Law (Law no. 9.472, from 07/16/97) with the following characteristics:

  • The agency has administrative independence and financial autonomy;
  • There is no hierarchy subordination, but the agency is connected to the Communication Ministry;
  • The members of the Director Council have fixed mandate and stability. They are chosen and named by the President of the Republic after Federal Senate's approval.

 

João Rezende is assigned as president of Anatel

João Batista de Rezende was assigned to be president of Anatel's Director Council. His mandate will end in November 5th, 2013. The assigment was published on November 1st, 2011, on the official diary (DOU).

Anatel's Managing Council is composed by 5 members that occupy positions with 5 years mandate. However, to the first term initiate in 11/05/1997 - constitution date of the Agency - were established different mandates ( 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 years) to distribute the renewal the advice and prevent discontinuity. The mandates are given to the positions, no matter date of ownership or exit of the councillors.
