NTT DoCoMo, name derived from the first letters of the phrase "o Communications Over the Mobile Network” is the cellular operator leader in Japan, with more than the half of cellulars market, and has one of the biggest subscribers bases of the world.

 

It offers services of mobile communication based in the technology of second generation 2G (mova) and in the FOMA (Freedom of mobile multimedia Access) by technology 3G (W - CDMA) launched in 2001, as first commercial 3G service of the world.

 

Since 1999, has i-mode, mobile internet service, that works in 2G and 3G networks, allowing to the subscribers the internet access by a developed menu in compact-html, specific for size of handsets screen. Through i-mode, the subscribers can change e-mails with subscribers i-mode or any other e-mail service. Nowadays, e-mail messages can have videos, animations, etc.

 

The plataform i-appli allows the subscribers to use JAVA and the i-channel customize the screen with personalized informations, as an example, news, sports, etc.

 

Through advanced i-mode service, Osaifu-keita, DoCoMo can be used not lony with e-money and e- cards, but also can be used as train/airplane tickets, allegiance card, keys, etc.
