Clearwire
Clearwire is an operator which provides services of broadband access to the Internet of United States offering wireless solution to the residential market and small companies using Wimax technology.
A Cleanwire was founded in October 2003, by Craig McCaw, and started operating with pre-Wimax technology in august 2004, in Jacksonville – Florida. In October 2005, Clearwire started its international operations in Ireland and Denmark.
In June 2004 Clearwire acquired NextNet Wireless, equipments for wireless broadband access (NLOS) producer of United States, and began the implementation of a net using its own equipments. In September 2006 Cleanwire sold NextNet for Motorola.
In January 2007 the Cleanwire partnership structure was made by: Eagle River Holding LLC (Craig McCaw, 48.6%), Intel Corporation (29.9%), Motorola Inc (4%), Bell Canadá (4.1%) e OB Wireless LLC (1.7%).
Clearwire operates in the 2.5 GHZ, licensed in all it’s markets in the United States, and in the 3,5 GHz in its international operations. Nowadays Clearwire has international spectrum licenses in the following countries: Germany, Belgium, Spain, Ireland, Poland and Romania.
In march 7th 2007 Cleanwire released its IPO in the United Stated and added US$ 600 million to the company.

Cleanwire is responsible for 35 local markets in the United States, covering more than 350 cities in Alaska, California, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Minnesota, Nevada North Carolina, Oregon, Texas and Wisconsin. Its international operation stands in Belgium (100% of participation) Ireland (97.6%), Denmark (Danske Telecom, participation of 38.2%) and in Mexico (MVSNet, 26.7% of participation).
Sprint Nextel and Cleanwire announced in Jully 2007 a joint venture for the construction of a Wimax net covering all the United States. This net was supposed to be operating in 2008. Although, in November 9th 2007, the companies announced the end of the end of the agreement.
In May 7th 2008, Sprint and Clearwire announced a partnership in a new company which will gather the WIMAX operations of both companies.
The new company, which will be called Clearwire, is going to count on investments of US$ 3.2 billion from Intel, Google, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks. The Sprint share participation in the new company will be 51% and Clearwire 27%.

In 05/21/2006 Clearwire completed with success the first trial of mobile WIMAX (IEEE 802.16e) using band 2.5 GHz.
