Carlos Slim's group operates in the telecom sector with the following companies:

• Telmex, main fixed telephony operator of Mexico, during its privatization process in 1990/1991. Telmex controls Embratel in Brazil.
• América Móvil, founded in 2000 joint Telecel, main cellular operator in Mexico and other cell phone operators of the group. It's Claro's controller in Brazil.

AT&T has 23.4% of América Móvil vote capital and 21% of Telmex.
