| 3G auction in Mexico |
In August 13th, Federal Telecommunications Commission - Cofetel, Mexican telecoms regulator, concluded the auction for the 3G band (1710-1770/2110-2170 MHz). The winners were: América Movil, Telefônica and Nextel. Together, these companies will pay about US$ 414 million.
The process benefited mainly Nextel, which purchased the national license for a cheaper price if compared with the value paid for its competitors (US$ 14 million, while América Móvil paid US$ 300 million and Telefônica US$ 100 million). It happened because the company competed alone for this piece of the band 1,8/2,1Ghz.
By that, Nextel puts itself in a good position to amplify its investments in Latin America. |
