Cellular Telephones: Net Sales in the World

| Cell Phones Sales in 1Q12 |
In the first quarter of the year unit shipments reached 398.4 million handsets, representing fall of 1.5% if compared with the same period of the previous year.
Samsung, big highlight of the quarter, overtook Nokia for the first time and became world leader in cell phones sales. It sold 93.8 million units along 1Q12, what represented growth of 35.4% in the year.
Nokia, which faced in 2011 the transition of operational system (from Symbian to Windows Phone) reported drop of 23.8% in 1Q12 if compared with 1Q11.
This fall in Nokia's sales and the success of Samsung's Galaxy line, reflected for Nokia's fall and the ascention of Samsung.
Apple, which in 4Q11 surpassed LG and reached the third position in the raking and kept it in 1Q12 by holding 35.1 million sold iPhones, what represented an increase of 88.0% in the quarter if compared with compared with 1Q11.
LG's sales dropped 44.1% in 1Q12, if compared with 1Q11, and was overtaken also by ZTE falling to the 5th position. |
