Public Telephone Operators
The Company Nicaraguense de Telecomunicaciones (ENITEL) S.A. is the local operator of public telephony. The Enitel is controlled by America Móvil, since june 2004 by Carlos Slim (mexican businessman). It had 214 thousand fixed telephones in service and 235 thousand in 2005. This number increased to 244 thousand in Mar/2005, 251 thousand in Jun/2005, 255 thousand in Sep/2005 and 260 thousand in 2006.
Mobile Operators
In 2006, Movistar had 553 thousand mobile accesses mil celulares and Enitem 1,277 thousand accesses. In June/07, Enitel counted 1,440 thousand mobile accesses.
