Mobile Telephony Operators
The cellular operators in Venezuela are: Movistar (Telefonica), Movilnet (Cantv) and Digitel.
- Movilnet uses CDMA/TDMA technology, Movistar CDMA/GSM and the others GSM.
- Telcel was acquired by Telefonica Moviles, together with other Bell South operations in the Latin America in March 2004.
- Tim announced in January 2006 for sale of the Digitel for the Telvenco S.A, a company of Oswaldo Cisneros property´s at the price of US$ 425 millions. The Digitel had in 2005, 1.7 million cellular and income for 287 million euros. Tim had announced in november 2004 for sale of Digitel for Cantv, operation that was not approved by Conatel.
- In Feb/07 the government of Venezuela acquired 28.5% of capital votante of CANTV that were Verizon (US) property per US$ 572 millions. This participation of Verizon with CANTV were being negotiated with America Móvil that had agreed to pay US$ 676 millions.
