In 4Q11, 150 million smartphones were sold in the world, representing penetration record of 34.0% from the 445.0 million sold mobile accesses.
Apple recovered the leadership inside the smartohone market by selling 37.0 million iPhones, growth of 128.7% in the year.
Samsung that was on the top of the raking, returned to the second position after selling 33.0 million smartphones in 4Q11, growth of 230.0% if compared with the same period last year.
Nokia's smartphones sales dropped 31.5% in comparison with to one year ago. It shows the challenge that faced by the company to compete with leaders like Apple and Samsung.
The fall in Nokia's sales was big due to the transition of operational system performed by the company as well as the fact that the first two models using the new operational system (Windows Phone), Lumia 710 and Lumia 800, arrived in stores only in the last week of 4Q11 in European, Hon Konger, Russian, Singaporean, South Korean and Taiwanese markets.
Lumia sales volume were low but showed good acceptance.
HTC showed, in a preliminary report, fall of 20.3% in December's sales.
Motorola Mobility sold 5.3 million smartphones in the quarter, growth of 10.4% in the quarter.
RIM sold 14.1 million units in 4Q11, what represented increasing 33.0% in smartphones sales in the quarter.

In 2011, 478.5 million smartphones were sold in the world, representing a growth of 63.5% in the year and penetration of 30.7% from the 1551.4 million cell phones sold.
Samsung's smart sales was successful in 2011, reaching record profit in 4Q11, of KRW 5.2 trillion (US$ 4.5 billion), mainly due to the huge sucess gotten by the Galaxy line and sale of its business of Hard driver to Seagate.
The company sold 90.8 million units in the year, what wasn't enough to overtake Apple's iPhone which sold 93.1 million of handsets.
Nokia's sales dropped 22.8% in the year so the manufacturer fell from the first to the third positionof the ranking. It happened due to the transition of operational system performed by the company.
For 2012, we expect firce competition for the first position and more robust smartphones with quad-core processors, NFC support, more apps and lond long-duration batteries. |
