More highlights

  • We are very sorry about the closure of the activities of Tele.Síntese, a partner of Teleco, which occurred as a result of the death of its editorial director and team leader, journalist Miriam Aquino.
  • The auction for the sale of Oi's pay TV unit was scheduled for January 30th, with Mileto having its binding proposal as a stalking horse. The stalking horse is configured when the company in judicial recovery chooses the buyer who will have the possibility of acquiring the assets on equal terms with the last bid, after competition among interested parties.

  • In Nov/24, 50 operators from 27 countries had shut down their 2G networks and 67 operators from 35 countries had shut down their 3G networks.

Telecom Company Stocks

Eduardo Tude

  • Ibovespa, which rose 23% in 2023, accumulated losses of 10.4% in 2024, its worst annual performance since 2021. The decline accelerated in December with the worsening perception of fiscal risk, rising inflation and the increase in the dollar and the Selic rate.
  • This behavior was followed to a greater or lesser extent by the stocks of companies in the telecommunications sector.
  • The devaluation of the Real and the rise in interest rates may make companies more cautious about taking on debt and impact investments in 2025.

More highlights

  • Oi has reached an agreement to sell its pay TV operation to Mileto, qualifying its binding proposal as a “stalking horse” for the formal process of selling the asset. The “stalking horse” is configured when the company in judicial recovery chooses the buyer who will be able to acquire the assets on equal terms with the last bid, after competition among interested parties.
  • A new research from Parks Associates released at CES® 2025 shows that 22% of U.S. households now receive their internet and cell phone services as part of a bundle.

Accesses in Novembver

Eduardo Tude

Mobile Telehony in November

  • Vivo led mobile growth in the first 11 months of the year, with net additions of 2.9 million mobile accesses, followed by Claro (1.2 million). Vivo led  postpaid net additions and Claro reported smaller losses in prepaid.
  • MVNOs presented net additions of 1.9 million mobiles accesses in this period, reaching 5.8 million in Nov/24 (it includes 1 million from NLT that didn't report in the month).
  • Prepaid showed negative net addis in this period (-3.7 million), with -1 million in November. It's possible that it will show new losses in December, the month that serves as the basis for calculating FISTEL payments.
  • The total number of cell phones showed net adds of 6.5 million if we add to the Anatel's number the value of 1 million accesses from NLT that weren't reported in the month.
  • Brazil ended Nov/24 counting 38 million 5G mobile accesses, 17.6 million more than in Dec/24.

Fixed services in November

  • The number of 50.6 million fixed broadband accesses disclosed by Anatel for November is underreported, as it was reported by 8.6 thousand providers, less than the 8.8 thousand that reported having 53 million accesses in Oct/24.
  • October number, in turn, shows at least one provider with an incorrect value, which would take this number to 52.7 million, that is, net additions of 4.1 million fixed broadband accesses in the accumulated total for the first 10 months of the year.
  • In Sep/24, 8.9 thousand providers reported having 51.5 million accesses.
  • It will be necessary to wait for the next release of data from Anatel to have a clearer picture of the growth of fixed broadband in 2024.
  • Fixed Telephony (-3 million accesses) and Pay TV (-2.2 million accesses) continued to shrink in the first 11 months of the year.

Oi

  • Oi, under judicial recovery since 2016, enters 2025 no longer being a fixed telephone concessionaire and without having a prominent operation in the telecommunications sector.
  • Therefore, this blog will no longer monitor the evolution of the value of its shares as it has done in recent years.
  • Oi's ON shares ended 2024 with a loss of 79.1% for the year and PN shares of 52.8%.
