Region I grew 8.4 million cellulars in 2006
The cellular base of Brazil grew 15.9% in 2006, being pushed up by Minas Gerais, Bahia and States of Northeast that increased more than 20%. These States belong to the Region I, where Telemar/Oi is placed.
In 2006 the Region I grew 21.4%, while Region II grew 9.2% and Region III ( São Paulo) 13.8%. Except Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, the States of Region I are the ones that present lesser cellular density in the country. The region I, however, is the one that has the biggest number of cellulars, 47.7 million ( 47.7% of Brazil)
Minas Gerais was the best one in 2006, being the only State to be in the quadrant D of the graphic above (Density and Growth over Brazil's average). The competition in Minas was incited by the entrance of Claro in the end of 2005.
The Net Adds of Region I were 8.4 million cellulars in 2006, 61% of the total in Brazil (13.7 million).

São Paulo (2.9 million), Minas Gerais (2 million) and Bahia (1.3 million) were the States with more net adds in 2006.
The cellular growth in 2006 was impacted by the cleaning of cellular base promoted by Vivo. In June/06 the operator presented a decreasing of 1.97 million in its cellulars base, which reduced the net adds in the 1st Semester of 2006. The impact was bigger in the region II where the reduction was 1.25 million cellulars.
Vivo continued the base cleaning in the second Semester, specially in the region II where presented reduction in the cellular quantity.

The Region I was the region that most contributed to the Net Adds of Vivo, Tim and Claro in the 2nd Semester of 2006. This really happened to Vivo, that isn't in Minas Gerais and Northeast States (area 10).
Tim and Claro, beyond leading the growth in the 2nd Semester of 2006, presented superior net adds to Oi in the region I and to BrT in the region II.
