Did the crisis affect cellular growth in Jan/09?
Brazil finished Jan/09 counting 151.9 million cellulars and density of 79.8 cell/100 inhab. Net Adds of 1.3 million cellulars of Jan/09 were the second highest for this month in the country, losing only for Jan/08.
Although net adds of Jan/09 were 570 thousand cellulars lower than the ones gotten in Jan/08, we can't attribute this effect to the economic crisis. Eventually, Oi/BrT's, Claro's and Vivo's net adds in Jan/09 were higher than in Jan/08. Tim, which presented atypical growth in Jan/08, was responsible for the fall in the net adds of Jan/09, in comparison with Jan/08.
An analysis per Region helps to understand this climate.

Region III (São Paulo) was the only to present in Jan/09 net adds superior to the ones gotten in Jan/08. Oi, which started operating in São Paulo in 2008, was responsible for this growth holding net adds of 193 thousand cellulars in Jan/09.
In Region II, despite Tim's reduction in its net adds (from 203 thousand cellulars to 14.5 thousand in Jan/09), Claro and BrT overcame in Jan/09 the net adds of Jan/08.
In Region III, only Claro presented a positive delta in a comparison between net adds of Jan/09 and Jan/08.
