Oi's impact in cellular growth in São Paulo
Oi started operating in São Paulo state in Oct/08 with an aggressive launching promotion and conquered in the same month 1.2 million cellulars (more details).
With Oi, the state of São Paulo accelerated cellular growth, making that grow in a higher rate than the Brazilian average.
Other operators' (Vivo, Claro and Tim) net adds were affected little by Oi's entrance.
Oi increased also the stake of prepaid cellulars in the state, once the majority of cellulars in São Paulo is composed by prepaid devices.
Between Oct/08 and Feb/09, prepaid cellular net adds in São Paulo counted 4.2 million.
In 5 months Oi conquered a market share of 6.2%. When Tim entered, as the 3rd operator in São Paulo in 2004, it took 12 months to reach a market share of 7.2%.
The metropolitan region of São Paulo (11) is the area where Oi hit biggest market share (7.9%).

By this growth, São Paulo overcame the state of Rio Grande do Sul and consolidated itself as 4th in density in Feb/09 (94.35 cell/100 inhab.), remaining behind Brasília (143.76), Rio de Janeiro (97.87) and Mato Grosso do Sul (96.01).
The metropolitan region (SP 11) rocketed from the 11th position (among the most dense area in Sep/08) to the 3rd position in Feb/09, reaching density of 104.26 cell/100 inhab.. It stayed behind Salvador (71), which holds density of 126.59 cell/100 inhab. and Brasília (61), with 118, 52 cell/100 inhab..
