Mobile market share board in Brazil won't change in 2009
The 3rd quarter of 2009 (3Q09) is presenting different competitive board if compared to what was observed in the 1st semester of 2009, with Vivo, Claro and Tim recovering part of the market share lost in the first two quarters of the year. By this inversion of trends, the market share board of mobile carriers in Brazil can remains unchanged in 2009.
This inversion of trends is, in big part, due to the change in Oi's performance, leader in growth in the 1st semester of 2009. Vivo, Claro and Tim presented, each one of them, from Jul-Aug/09 more than the double of Oi's net adds in the same period.
Vivo led mobile growth in the accumulated from Jul-Aug/09, followed closely by Claro and Tim. Any of these three carriers can conquer the leadership in net adds in 3Q09.
Despite growing aggressively in São Paulo, Oi isn't able to repeat the same performance in the rest of the country (more details).
With these results, the market share board of mobile carriers in Brazil becomes more stable with no threat to any of the companies of losing positions in 2009.
Vivo is consolidated in the leadership and increased in 2009 the difference in the number of mobile accesses that separates the company from Claro.
The same happened to Claro (in the 2nd position) in relation to Tim (in the 3rd position). Tim recovered in 2Q09 part of its losses due to the base cleaning promoted in 1Q09, but its distance to Claro was increased in Aug/09.
What promised to be biggest fight of the year (Oi x Tim), seems to have been postponed to 2010. With Oi's performance fall, Tim resumed amplifying the difference which separates both carriers.
