In this quarter, in Region I, Oi lost the leadership in market share for Vivo in Minas Gerais and in the Area Code 86 (Piauí) for Tim.
Despite the low performance in 3Q09, Oi remains the Net Adds leader in the accumulated along the year, with 4.8 million mobile accesses, followed by Vivo (3.9 million), Claro (3.5 million) and Tim (3.2 million).
One of these causes for Oi's low growth is the high churn presented by the operator (3.8% in 3Q09). In 2Q09, it reached 3.5% while the Brazilian average was 2.9%. This represents a monthly loss of abou 1.3 million cellulars. Oi's policy for chips sale and the participation of prepaid in its base (84%), higher than other operator's, contributed to this churn.
