Group formed by Claro, Embratel and Net got the highest growth in 2009
The net revenue gotten by América Móvil Group's (formed by Claro, Embratel and Net) in Brazil raised 8.9% in 2009, decreasing the distance that separates the company from Telefonica/Vivo Group, which grew 1.1%, and Oi (-0.2%).
América Móvil Group in Brazil also presented the highest net margin (Net Profit/Net Revenue).
This result in 2009 was strongly affected by Claro which presented net profit of R$ 1.7 billions in 2009, due to the use of R$ 1.2 billions in credits in income tax and social contribution previously deferred. So América Móvil Group's Profit in 2009 was higher than Vivo/Telefonica's.
Oi, presented loss due to the expenditures of R$ 2.5 billions with the provision of contingency for legal actions and with the BrT's merger (more details).
Considering the strong impact of these unusual results, EBITDA margin shows a real picture of the operational profitability of this groups.
Anyway, it's amazing the improvement presented by América Móvil Group in Brazil over the last 5 years. These three operators, which form the group, are showing strong growth in recent years in revenue and helped to increase group's profitability.
With the incorporation of Embratel and Net by América Móvil, Claro's controller, the trends point out to a merger of these three companies in Brazil, forming an integrated operator with conditions to increase its competitiveness inside the Brazilian market. It's good to remember that the merger with Net still depends on legal matters, in particular the approvation of the "Projeto de Lei 29".
