Tim led the month in which mobile growth dropped

Tim led mobile growth in Jun/10 with net adds of 637 thousand mobile accesses, overtaking Vivo, leader in the last 9 months (more details). Tim wasn't the leader in a month since Jun/09.

However, Tim's good result was followed by reduction in main operators' mobile net adds, when compared with Jun/09. This is the first month in 2010 in which net adds were lower than the figures registered in the same month 2009.

The next months will say whether Jun/10 was the end of the strong mobile growth phase led by Vivo, or whether June's low growth happened due to a base adjustment provided by the operators for the end of the quarter.

Any way, net adds of 11.2 million mobile accesses in the first quarter of 2010 were 24.6% higher than those 9.0 million registered in the first semester of 2009. Vivo got 37% of these net adds.

2010 is presenting reduction in promotions for specific celebration dates and more constant operators' offers along the year.

Vivo and Tim are likely to keep their growth strategies in the 2nd semester. Claro and Oi may become more aggressive. Claro's advantage over Tim fell from 3.3 million mobile accesses in Dec/09 to 2.5 million in Jun/10.

Oi's market share is likely to fall to less than 20% in Jul/10. The company lost the leadership in Region I to Vivo and can be overtaken also by Tim in the second semester. Oi is growing only in São Paulo (Region III).
