Tim leads monthly mobile growth for the second time in the year
Tim led, for the second time in the year, mobile growth in a month. The company led it in Jun/10 (month in which is Valentine’s Day) and resumed growth in Aug/10 (in which is Father’s Day) holding net adds of 965 thousand mobile accesses. Vivo came second having net adds of 690 thousand cellulars, followed by Claro with 624 thousand mobile accesses.
Tim was the only operators to present, in Aug/10, net adds superior than the ones gotten in Aug/09.

Tim led mobile growth in the prepaid and Vivo in the postpaid. From the 965 thousand mobile accesses registered by Tim’s net adds, 885 thousand were gotten in prepaid. In other words, 91.7% of its net adds.
Vivo reached 246 thousand mobile accesses in postpaid net adds, it represents 52% of the total of postpaid net adds in Brazil in Aug/10.
Vivo’s performance in 2010 is causing bogger growth in postpaid than in prepaid. Postpaid increased 11% in the accumulated along the year (Jan to Aug), against 8.4% of prepaid. In this period, Vivo accumulated 65% of the postpaid net adds (2.1 million mobile accesses).

Tim led net adds in 3 regions of the SMP, in which Brazil is divided, including in São Paulo (Region III).

Claro was the leader in Jul/10, but fell to the third position in Aug/10. Oi, with net adds of 115 thousand mobile accesses, continues to lose market share, dropping to 19.74%.
Oi, which had led mobile growth in the accumulated from Jan to Aug/09 with net adds of 4.5 million cellulars, accumulated net adds of 1.3 million mobile accesses in the same period of 2010.

Brazil accumulated 15.5 million mobile net adds from Jan-Aug/10, against 13.9 million gotten in the same period of 2009. Net adds registered along the first five months of 2010 surpassed the value gotten in the same months of 2009. In the following three months (Jun, Jul and Aug) the opposite happened.

This trend will probably be inverted again in the next three months (Sep, Oct and Nov). In 2009, these months presented smaller growth than the average of net adds gotten in the previous months.
Brazil ended Aug/10 with 189.4 million mobile accesses and density of 98.0 cel./100 inhab., with net adds of 24.9 million in the last 12 months.
Teleco keeps its projection of 26 million mobile net adds for 2010. This result will depend on the market performance in December, in 2009 the month registered 4.2 million mobile net adds.
