Tim leads mobile growth in Sep/10 and overtakes Claro in prepaid market share
Tim leads mobile growth in September with net adds of 1 million mobile accesses. The company conquered also the leadership in the quarter (3Q10) and is very close to Vivo in net adds in the year.

With this result, Tim reduced to 1.8 million mobile accesses the distance which separates the operator from Claro, reinforcing the competition for the second position in the market share ranking (more details). Note that, despite the fact that Claro held the second in net adds in 3Q10, Tim got (in the quarter) to reduce the difference to Claro in 657 thousand mobile accesses.

Tim's aggressive plans with calls costing R$0.25, including long distance calls, are resulting is growth in prepaid segment in which the company got 87% of its net adds in the year.

These plans helped Tim to overtake Claro in market share in September of 2010.

Vivo continues to keep its focus in postpaid segment, responsible for 60% of its total postpaid net adds accumulated from the three first quarters of the year.

Oi presented only 182 thousand mobile accesses as net adds. The operator lost this strength in São Paulo, where it got 83% of its net adds in the two first quarters of the year. In 3Q10, the operator was fourth in net adds inside the state with 87 thousand mobile accesses. Tim's aggressive plans occupied Oi's space in São Paulo, mainly inside the metropolitan region (area code 11) where Oi, in Sep/10, registered negative net adds (-8.9 thousand cellulars) while Tim led growth with 215 thousand net adds.
