Oi and Tim gained market share in São Paulo

 

The state of São Paulo, holding 52.9 million mobile accesses in May/11, is the biggest in number of cellulars (24.6% of the Brazilian total) and is the second in density with 127.1 cell./100 inhab.

 

If the States of São Paulo was a country it would be among the 25 biggest countries in number of cellulars, however, in Latin America is only behind of Brazil, Mexico and Argentina.

 

Vivo and Claro are market share leader inside the State, but they are losing to TIM and Oi.

 

 

 

 

Tim and Oi led mobile growth in the values accumulated in the first five months of 2011, mainly due to their performance in prepaid segment which concentrates 77.9% of the mobile accesses of the State.

 

 

 

 

In fact, Vivo and Claro are losing market share in prepaid as what is happening in the whole country.

 

 

 

 

In the postpaid segment, Vivo is gaining market share and is getting more distant from Claro and TIM as both are losing market share. Oi is growing too in the postpaid, despite of the fact that prepaid represents 88.8% of its cellulars.

 

 

 

 

In the total in São Paulo, Vivo leads in 5 of the 9 area codes in which is divided the State and Claro leads in 4 others.

The main competition happened inside are code 11 (Metropolitan Region that concentrates 55% of the accesses of the state). Inside this area code Claro was overtaken by TIM in 2010 and can lose the third position to Oi in 2011.

 

 

 

 

Tim led growth in area code 11 in the values accumulated in the 5 first months of the year with net adds of 287 thousand mobile accesses, followed by Vivo (42 thousand), Oi (37 thousand) and Claro (29 thousand).
