Telefonica and GVT are the groups leading the Brazilian telecom sector in 2Q11

 

 

 

 

 

Telefonica is the biggest telecommunication group in Brazil considering its net revenue and number of accesses. GVT presented the biggest growth and the best profitability.

In 1Q11, Teleco started to keep track of the performance presented by these Groups through the indicators showed in the table above.

 

 

Net Revenue: Telefonica led net revenue

 

Telefonica is the biggest Telecom group in Brazil in revenue (R$ 8.2 billion in 2Q11).

 

 

Note: Groups' net revenue considers revenue eliminations between the companies of the Group.

 

In 1Q11, América Móvil Group (Claro, Embratel and Net) overtook Oi Group in net revenue and kept the 2nd position in 2Q11.

 

 

The three main Telecom Groups in Brazil were responsible for 72.6% of the Brazilian Telecom net revenue in 2Q11.

 

 

Accesses Market Share: Telefonica is the leader

 

Telefonica Group is also the leader in total accesses market share or Revenue Generating Units (RGU) of many types of service.

 

 

América Móvil Group is second, after having surpassed Oi in 3Q10.

 

Vivo leads cellular market share, Oi fixed is first in telephony and broadband and América Móvil in pay TV.

 

 

 

 

Profitability: GVT is the only operator to have EBITDA margin superior to 40%

 

GVT kept the leadership in EBITDA margin, but Telefonica was the only carrier to present growth of EBTIDA margin in the quarter.

 

 

Telefonica Group showed the biggest profitability (R$ 1.1 billion).

 

 

Growth: GVT and Nextel have the biggest growth

 

GVT presented the biggest growth in 12 months in number of accesses (45.8%) and in net revenue (42.2%), followed by Nextel (29.58% and 28.7%) and by TIM (25.0% and 19.5%). Oi showed the lowest growth in quantity of accesses (5.4%) and was the only one to present negative growth in revenue.
