Vivo lost market share in September, but gained in the quarter. In September, Claro kept the trend for loss of market share.
The big news of the month was Oi, which reverted the trend that pointed to 6 months of market share loss.
In September, Oi overtook Claro in net adds and provoked a fall in TIM and Vivo's net adds, in comparison with the previous months.

The improvement in Oi's performance set fire in the competition inside the cellular segment and another effect was that it made the participation, of the four main carriers, in the total net adds ("share") converge into 20-30%.

Oi showed again, in September, net adds share superior to 20% due to its performance inside the region I where the company reached 96.3% of its net adds in Sep.. In other regions it continued to lose market share.
The net adds board shows significative differences in prepaid and postpaid segments.
In September, TIM led prepaid net adds (756 thousands) and Vivo stayed in the 4th position (363 thousand). By this result the difference between these two operators dropped to 1.1 million, reinforcing TIM's trend to overtake Vivo and become market share leader inside the prepaid until the end of the year.

Vivo kept the leadership in postpaid net adds (363 thousand), but the news in this segment was TIM (238 thousand) that overtook Claro (193 thousand) in September.
These results confirm the trends of the previous months (more details) and point out a record cellular growth in 2011. Net adds in the first nine months of the year reached 24.4 million mobile accesses (35.9 million in the last 12 months).
The market is likely to remain warm in 4Q11. Besides Oi, Claro will probably increase its aggressiveness. It cut to R$ 0.21 the price for on-net national calls.
