Vivo and TIM alternated in the net adds leadership

Brazil presented again record cellular growth in February, with net adds of 2.44 million mobile accesses, overtaking the net adds registered in Feb/11 (2,42 millions) for a small margin. Vivo led net adds in Feb/12 (1,032 thousand), followed by TIM (thousand), Oi (310 thousand) and Claro (305 thousand).

February's net adds confirm the trends observed in the last six months:

The result of this evolution is that Vivo and TIM accumulated 7.7 million mobile accesses in the last six months, while Claro and Oi accumulated 4.3 and 3.9 million respectively in this period.

Vivo led in four of the six previous months and TIM was the leader in two.

This board is determined mainly by net adds inside prepaid segment which presented, in the last six months, distribution of net adds among operators similar to what was presented for the total of cellulars.

The competition between Vivo and TIM for the leadership in prepaid market share has encouraged net adds growth in both operators. Vivo's advantage over TIM, which had dropped to 660 thousand mobile accesses in December/2011, increased to 1.1 million in February.

Inside postpaid segment, the competition is even stronger, having Claro, Oi and TIM alternating in the second position of the net adds ranking of the last three months.
