Telefônica is the biggest Telecom Group in Brazil considering revenue and accesses

Telefônica is the biggest Brazilian Telecommunication Group when we consider net revenue and number of accesses.

In 2011, SKY led revenue growth, TIM was the leader in accesses net adds and GVT in EBITDA margin.

Teleco initiated the 1st quarter of 2011 keeping track of Groups performance in Brazil through indicators. In the following we present the results for each of these indicators in 2011.

Number of Accesses: Telefônica is the leader

Brazil ended 2011 counting 319 million accesses, being 246.4 million mobile (Cellular and SME) and 72.2 million fixed (fixed telephones, broadband and pay TV).

Telefônica/Vivo Group is the total leader in accesses, or Revenue Generating Unit (RGU).

América Móvil Group (Claro, Embratel, Net) is the second, having surpassed Oi in 2010.

Oi leads fixed accesses, but can be overtaken in the total of accesses by TIM which led net adds in 2011.

Net adds in 2011: TIM was the leader

TIM's good performance in cellular segment assured the leadership in net adds in 2011.

América Móvil Group stayed in the second position due to its performance inside the fixed segment (4 million net adds) gotten mostly in pay TV (1.7 million).

Vivo was second in net adds in cellular, in which segment the operator got 98% of the total of its net adds. On the other hand, Oi's net adds were affected by fixed telephony in which the carrier had negative net adds (1.0 million fixed telephones).

Net revenue: Telefonica leads net revenue

Telefônica is the biggest Brazilian Telecom Group in revenue holding R$ 33.2 billion in 3Q11, from a total of over R$ 125 billion in net revenue gotten by telecommunication providers in Brazil.

Note: Groups' net revenue consider eliminations of revenues among companies of the same Group. Sky's revenue was estimated by Teleco.

América Móvil Group (Claro, Embratel and Net) overtook Oi in net revenue in 2011.

Despite of the fact that TIM is getting closer to Oi in number of accesses, Oi's advantage over TIM's revenue reached more than R$ 10 billion in 2011.

The four biggest Brazilian Telecom Groups answered for 86% of the Telecom net revenue in the country in 2011.

Revenue growth: SKY leads

SKY led revenue growth in 2011. The competition with Embratel in DTH drove to growth of 48.8% in the quantity of Sky's accesses in the period. Sky's revenue and growth were estimated by Teleco based on the results gotten by operator in Latin America.

Nextel was placed in the second position (49.9%) followed by GVT (39.0%). The smaller Groups are likely to have advantage in this indicator. Oi was the only group to present negative growth in revenue (-5.3%).

Profitability: GVT leads EBITDA margin

GVT continued to lead EBITDA margin and Telefônica was second. The other Groups presented accentuated reduction in EBITDA margin in 2011.

Telefônica showed the biggest profit in 2011 - R$ 5.1 billion (15.4% of the net revenue), followed by TIM - R$ 1.3 billion (7.6% of the net revenue) and by Oi - R$ 1.0 billion (3.6% of the net revenue).
