Vivo and Claro are leaders in mobile broadband in Brazil
Brazil ended Feb/12 counting 47.2 million mobile broadband accesses, being 38.8 million via handsets (WCDMA) and 8.3 million data terminals.

The revision of the criteria used to count 3G mobile accesses operated by Oi, TIM and Vivo was responsible for net adds of 5.7 million accesses via 3G handsets in the two first months of the year. The revision identified 3G accesses that were counted as only GSM.
In order to avaluate the leaders in mobile broadband in Brazil, Teleco selected in Jan/12 (more details) the following indicators, that are analyzed below.

Mobile Broadband: Vivo reached the leadership
The revision in the criteria to count 3G handsets drove Vivo to the leadership in mobile broadband market share in Brazil (33.9%), overtaking Claro. Vivo counted 16.0 million accesses in Feb/12, against 15.9 million gotten by Claro.
Acording to Anatel, the number of mobile broadband accesses is gotten based on counting the quantity of accesses via 3G handsets plus data terminals.
A survey carried out by Teleco for Huawei Whitepaper on Broadband in five capital cities pointed out that 79% of the pepople who have 3G cell phones are used to access Internet (more details).
3G Handsets: Claro remains as leader
Claro continues to be the leader in 3G handsets with 14.2 million accesses in Feb/12.
22.1% of Claro's accesses via handsets are 3G, against 17.6% operated by Vivo and 14.7% ny TIM.
The revision promoted by Oi showed that the operator wasn't counting all the 3G cellulars of its base, as we can observe by the jump presented in the participation of 3G cellulars in the operator's total in Feb/12.
Data Terminals Market Share: Vivo
Vivo is the operator leader in data terminals market share with 43.8% of the 8.3 million data terminals existing in Brazil in Feb/12, followed by TIM with 29.4%.

In data terminals are included all the devices for machine to machine such as modems, tablets, data termianls for credit cards, monitoring systems, etc..
Data Revenue: Vivo
Vivo is the leader in data revenue holding R$ 1.8 billion in 4Q11.

Claro doesn't report this indicator and Oi, since 4Q11, reports data revenue only for retail it doesn't include corporative market.
In 4Q11, data represented 26.1% of Vivo's services revenue and 16.7% of TIM's.

Vivo is the leader in 3G coverage, reaching 2,635 cities (88% of the population) in Feb/12.
