Fixed broadband: Oi is first in market share, Net and GVT lead growth
Oi is leader in fixed broadband in Brazil, counting 4.9 million accesses, followed by Net (4.3 million), Telefônica (3.6 million) and GVT (1.7 million).
Net and GVT gained market share in 2011 and led net adds in 2011.
The offer of fixed broadband faster than 5 Mbps through networks based in fiber made GVT and Net present the biggest growth of 2011. At GVT, 75% of the fixed broadband accesses have speeds equal or superior to 10 Mbps. Oi and Telefônica's growth was smaller than the Brazilian average in 2011.
SCM Market Share
UIT defines fixed broadband accesses as Internet accesses with download speed>/= to 256 kbps. The total of 16.5 million accesses in 2011 was estimated by Teleco consolidating information reported by the operators.
Anatel reports the total of SCM providers accesses (18.1 million in 2011) and the total of data accesses considering, besides SCM, the following services: Specialized Limited, SRTT, satellite SCM, MME, specialized circuit, specialized, specialized network, supervision and control / Ter, satellite SLE and satellite specialized network.
Oi's market share increased to 34.6% when considered SCM accesses.
Oi had 56.7% of the SCM accesses in regions I and II. Telefônica had 55.2% in region III (São Paulo).
