Brazil continues to present record growth in cellular counting in March net adds of 3.2 million mobile accesses. TIM led total net adds (1.3 million), followed by Vivo (867 thousand), Claro (529 thousand) and Oi (504 thousand).

This leadership in March's net adds was expanded to the whole country. TIM led net adds insinde 35 area codes (DDDs), Vivo in 20, Claro insinde 10 and Oi in 2.

TIM's net adds are concentrated, however, in prepaid where the carrier got 88.7% of its net adds. Oi, fourth in the raking of total net adds and prepaid net adds in March, was leader in postpaid net adds in the month.

Prepaid

By the result gotten by TIM in March, the difference to Vivo in prepaid dropped to 599 thousand cellular subscribers.

The competition is likely to continue to be fierce in the coming days and TIM can replace Vivo in the leadership inside this segment.

In 1Q12, TIM's behavior was similar to what was presented in 4Q11. The carrier was overtaken by Vivo in the first two months of the quarter and discounted the difference in the last month.

Postpaid

Oi's leadership in postpaid net adds registered in March was a result of new strategic planning made by the aoperator which wants to increase inside this segment from market share of 13% in 2011 to 25% in 2012. Oi's net adds share jumped from 10.9% in Oct/11 to 36.4% in Mar/12.
