Vivo leads in seven indicators in 1Q12

 

Vivo presented an exemplar performance in the 1st quarter of 2012 (1Q12) leading in seven cellular indicators. This is the first time that it happens since 2007, when Teleco started to keep track of the mobile operators' in Brazil measuring it through these seven indicators.

Market Share: Vivo leads and gains market share in the quarter

 

Vivo, biggest cellular operator in Brazil, ended 1Q12 counting 74.8 million mobile accesses and market share of 29.81%.

 

 

 

Vivo and TIM gained market share in 4Q11, Claro and Oi lost it.

Vivo is the market share leader in 3 regions, in 13 of the 27 states (including Brasília) and in 30 of the 67 area codes. In 1Q12, Vivo gained the leadership inside the state of Pará from TIM and in area code 73 (Ilhéus) from Claro.

Vivo lost postpaid market share in 1Q12, despite of having led net adds segment in the quarter. Oi and TIM gained market share.

Tim and Vivo gained prepaid market share and the difference that separates both operators inside this segment decreased to 599 thousand 1Q12. TIM can overtake Vivo in prepaid in 2012.

Growth: Vivo reached the leadership

 

Vivo led cellular growth in the quarter (3.2 million) overtaking TIM (3.1 million).

Vivo led total and postpaid net adds. TIM was first in prepaid.

 

 

 

Oi's performance deserves to be highlighted, being placed in the second position in postpaid net adds.

 

 

Net revenue: Vivo keeps the advantage over the other operators

 

Note: Oi reports revenue only for cellulars in the retail market (personal mobility).

 

Vivo remained in the leadership holding revenue of R$ 5.1 billion in 1Q12 and growth of 9.3% in comparison with 1Q11.

Oi had the biggest revenue growth in the period (23.6%). Oi started to report only its revenue for retail (personal mobility), which doesn't include mobile accesses in the corporative market.

 

 

ARPU: Vivo amplifies the leadership in 1Q12

Note: Oi retail doesn't include Oi's cellular revenue in corporative market.

 

 

The growth in data revenue, encouraged by investments in 3G, helped Vivo to amplify the leadership in ARPU. Vivo's data ARPU (R$ 6.4) represented 26.0% of the total ARPU (R$ 24.6) in 4Q11.

Profitability: Telefônica/Vivo leads EBITDA Margin

 

Vivo/Telefônica Group led profitability in 1Q12, getting results from the integration of fixed and mobile operations.

 

 

 

Oi Group stayed in the second position.

Quality: Vivo leads in 1Q12

 

Vivo led by accomplishing Anatel's quality targets in 1Q12, surpassing TIM.

Between these four operators, Vivo presented in 1Q12 the smallest number of complaints and the best performance in answering these complaints (IDA).

 

 

Coverage: Vivo in the leadership

 

Vivo remained in the leadership covering 90.7% of the population, overtaking Claro, but the difference between both companies continues to be small.

Vivo led 3G coverage in 1Q12, ending the quarter by covering 2,727 cities, followed by Claro (866), TIM (512) and Oi (308).

 

 

Vivo showed excellent results in 1Q12, leading in seven indicators analysed by Teleco. However, cellular competition in Brazil continues to be strong and in April Vivo as overtaken in accumulated net adds in the year by TIM (total of mobile accesses) and by Oi (postapid).
