Growth of accesses in 2012 came followed of growth in speed.

The participation of accesses having speed faster than 2 Mbps, in the total of fixed broadband accesses in Brazil, increased from 33.0% in 2011 to 48.0% in 2012.

GVT has 63.6% of the fixed broadband accesses with higher than 12 Mbps and Net has 43.5% of the accesses with speed between 2 and 12 Mbps. Both companies have been the main responsible for the speed growth.

The offer of higher speeds helped to increase the growth of these operators.

GVT led fixed broadband growth in Brazil (29.7%), followed by Embratel/Net (21.8%).

Oi, leader in fixed broadband accesses in Brazil, increased 15.4% during 2012 and had its leadership threatened by Embratel/Net.

Telefônica/Vivo, which increased 2.8% in 2012, seems to have chosen a strategy of smaller growth in short term, focusing in offering fiber until de residence. FTTH assures high speeds, better service quality and greater customer loyalty in the medium and long term. Telefônica/Vivo ended 2012 counting 112 thousand FTTH accesses and 1.0 million homes passed.
