Groups leading Brazilian Telecom in 1Q13

 

In the first quarter of 2013, Telefônica/Vivo Group kept the revenue leadership and started to share with América Móvil (Claro, Embratel/Net) the leadership in number of accesses.

 

Sky led revenue growth and GVT was the leader in accesses growth and profitability. Oi led investments.

In the first quarter of 2011, Teleco started to monitor the performance of Telecom Groups in Brazil through selected indicators. The following shows the results for 1Q13.

 

 

Number of Accesses: Telefônica/Vivo shares the leadership with América Móvil

 

Telefônica/Vivo and América Móvil (Claro, Embratel/Net) ended 1Q13 counting 90.9 million accesses, or  of Revenue Generating Unit (UGR).

 

 

 

Vivo is the leader in mobile accesses.

 

 

 

 

Oi leads fixed accesses (25.2 million) followed closely by América Móvil (24.6 million). Oi leads fixed telephony and América Móvil is the pay TV leader. Both operators have the same number of fixed broadband accesses (5.9 million).

 

 

 

 

Revenue: Telefônica is first

 

Telefônica/Vivo is the biggest Telecommunication Group in Brazil holding net revenue of R$ 8.6 billion in 1Q13.

 

 

 

Sky and GVT lead growth

 

Sky led in net revenue growth and GVT was first in 1Q13, when compared with 1Q12.

 

 

The six operators showed positive growth of revenue in 1Q13 over 1Q12. This result is significative when compared with the main carriers in Europe and in the United States that presented negative growth f revenue in this period.

 

 

Profitability: GVT leads EBITDA margin

 

GVT kept the leadership in EBITDA margin in 1Q13, followed by Vivo and Oi. Oi was the only one among them to show improvement in its EBITDA margin over 1Q12.

 

 

Telefônica/Vivo presented the biggest profit in 1Q13 (R$ 810 million), followed by TIM (R$ 306 million) and by Oi (R$ 253 million).

 

 

Investments: Oi leads

 

Oi led in investments (Capex) in 1Q13.

 

Note: América Móvil's investment was estimated by Teleco. It doesn't include pagayments for frequencies.
