Vivo leads postpaid net adds

 

Prepaid market share in Brazil goes through an stage of accommodation increasing only 2.1% in the last 12 month.

 

The net adds registered in the first four months of 2013 (340 thousand prepaid mobile accesses) were affected by the adjustments performed by operators. Vivo and Oi presented negative net adds inside this segment in the first quarter of 2013 (1Q13). In April was Claro's turn.

 

While prepaid is adjusted, postpaid continued to increase in a rate of 15.8% in the previous 12 months and started to represent 20.16% of the cellular base in Brazil in Apr/13, against 18.21% in Apr/12.

 

Vivo leads this process, having conquered 42.5% of the postpaid net adds in 2013.

 

 

Vivo is gaining in postpaid since 2009 and was the only company, among the four main mobile carriers in Brazil, to gain market share inside this segment in the first four months of 2013.

 

 

Vivo's strategy, to cover more cities than other operators, contributes to increase the carrier's performance inside the postpaid segment. Vivo leads in number of broadband data terminals (modems).

 

 

Vivo showed also the biggest index of satisfaction among postpaid users, according to the survey published by Anatel in 2013.

 

 

Vivo reduced also the monthly churn inside this segment from 2.1% in 1Q12 to 1.7% in 1Q13.

 

As a result, Vivo showed participation of 26.0% in postpaid segment in the total of cellulars of its base, being bigger than Claro's (20.5%), Oi (16.9%) and TIM (15.5%). It is represents an ARPU (R$ 23.1) bigger than what was registered by Oi (R$ 20.5), TIM (R$ 18.5) and Claro (R$ 15.0).
