Competition for the market share leadership in fixed broadband

Oi is the market leader in accesses of Multimedia Communication Service ("Serviço de Comunicação Multimídia" - SCM) holding 31.1% of market share in the first quarter of 2013 (1Q13).

SCM accesses include broadband accesses and accesses with speeds inferior to 256 kbps.

Teleco estimates that from the total of 20.6 million SCM accesses counted in 1Q13, 19.7 million were fixed broadband.

América Móvil Group (Embratel/Net) occupies the second position (28.7%) and is threatening Oi's leadership in SCM accesses.

The trend points out that A. Móvil Group will consolidate itself in the fixed broadband leadership and overtaking Oi in number of SCM accesses in 2013.

América Móvil and GVT got to grow with the strategy of offering high speed Internet access focused in covering the main Brazilian cities.

In the end of 1Q13, NET offered fixed broadband in 135 cities and GVT in 142 cities. Both operators may amplify the coverage to other cities in 2013. GVT announced the beginning of operations inside the city of São Paulo and NET can amplify pay TV service to other cities after converting its authorizations to SeAC.

Oi and Vivo are leaders in number of SCM accesses with speeds inferior or equal to 2 Mbps, América Móvil between 2 and 12 Mbps and GVT in accesses with speeds superior to 12 Mbps.

Vivo, which had 99.5% of the SCM accesses inside the state of São Paulo, is the leader inside this state with 51.2% of the accesses.

The operator seems to have chosen a strategy of smaller growth in short term, focusing in the offer of fiber to the Home. FTTH assures high speeds, better service quality and customer loyalty in the medium and long term. Vivo ended 1Q13 counting 125 thousand FTTH accesses.
