Since 2007, Teleco keeps track of carriers performance in Brazil measuring it through these indicators.

In 1Q13, quality started to be evaluated through the indicator of complaints registered by Anatel. The Agency suspended (in April, 2012) the publication of the indicators about the accomplishment of quality targets by operators.

The following shows the results for each one of these indicators in 2Q13.

Market Share: Vivo leads, but loses market share in prepaid

Vivo, the biggest mobile operator in Brazil, ended 2Q13 counting 76.2 million accesses and market share of 28.67%.

TIM was the only company to grow in market share in 2Q13.

Vivo is the market share leader inside two regions, in 11 of the 27 states (plus Brasilia) and inside 28 of the 67 area codes. In May/13, TIM became market share leader in the Region I.

Vivo's market share loss occurs inside the prepaid segment due to the adoption of a more restrict criteria to turn off inactive mobile accesses in comparison with TIM.

Criteria to turn off prepaid accesses:
Vivo
TIM
Validity of recharge overdue for more than
60 days
180 days
and not registering any type of traffic for more than
30 days
90 days

Note: Claro and Oi don't report their rules about turning off inactive accesses.

According to a study published by Vivo, the company would still be the market share leader in prepaid if it adopted a rule similar to TIM to turn off accesses.

Growth: TIM became the leader in net adds in the quarter again

TIM led cellular growth in the quarter and Claro, which was the leader in the two previous quarters, fell to the fourth position in 2Q13.

The net adds of 1.7 million mobile accesses in 2Q13 confirmed the trend of reduction in the cellular growth rate in Brazil.

TIM became leader by having shown a good performance in prepaid and postpaid. Vivo and Claro presented negative net adds in prepaid and Oi in postpaid.

Vivo led the postpaid segment holding net adds superior to the other three operators counted altogether, but the company got negative net adds of 955 thousands prepaid affected by the reduction in the deadline to turn off prepaid inactive accesses.

Net Revenue: Vivo was the leader, but had negative growth in the quarter

Vivo kept itself in the leadership by holding revenue of R$ 5.5 billion in 2Q13, however, had negative growth (1.7%) in comparison with 1Q13.

Note: Vivo's revenues don't include revenues of interconnection gotten by Vivo Fixo service. Claro's revenue doesn't include long distance.

Oi had negative growth in the revenue along the quarter and the year.

Mobile operators revenues are suffering the impact of reduction in the value of VUM promoted by Anatel.

ARPU: Vivo amplifies the leadership in ARPU

The more adjusted base, by a more restrict rule to shut off prepaid accesses, contributing for a smaller reduction in Vivo's ARPU.

ARPU values informed by operators aren't totally comparable because they use different criteria to determine it:

Profitability: Telefônica/Vivo leads in EBITDA Margin

Telefônica/Vivo Group remained in the leadership in profitability with EBITDA margin of 30.3%, even though smaller than the value registered in the previous quarters.

Since 4Q12, operators are presenting smaller EBTDA margin. The biggest drop in this quarter happened at Oi due to the growth of costs and expenditures such as the allowance for doubtful accounts.

Note: In 2Q11, a modification was made in the criteria to calculate the profitability of the indicators evaluated by TELECO, starting to consider Group's EBITDA margin gathering mobile and fixed operations. It was necessary to make this modification because Vivo, Claro and TIM report this indicator this way only.

Quality: Vivo is the leader

Since 1Q13, quality is evaluated through the indicator of complaints registered by Anatel. In April, 2012, the Agency suspended the report of the indicators about the accomplishment of quality targets by operators.

Vivo and TIM presented the smallest number of complaints by 1000 accesses during the first two months of 2Q13. Anatel didn't have published this index for Jun/13 when this commentary was published.

Anatel started to report information about network quality in all the Brazilian cities. From the next quarter on these indicators will be incorporated to the evaluation of quality made for in this commentary every quarter.

Coverage: Claro continues in the leadership

Claro kept the leadership in covered population (91.3%), conquered in 4Q12.
