Groups Telecom leaders in Brazil in 2Q13

 

In the second quarter of 2013 (2Q13), América Móvil group reached, even though with a small margin, the leadership in total accesses and got closer to vivo in net revenue.

 

Sky continued to lead revenue growth and GVT led access growth and profitability. Oi led in accumulated investments in the first semester of 2013.

In the first quarter of 2011, Teleco started to keep track of the performance gotten by Telecom Groups in Brazil through selected indicators. The following shows the results for 2Q13.

 

 

Number of Accesses: América Móvel reaches the leadership

 

América Móvil (Claro, Embratel/Net) ended 2Q13 counting 91.6 million accesses (Revenue Generating Unit - RGU), overtaking Vivo (91.1 million).

Vivo is the leader in mobile accesses.

 

 

 

 

Oi and América Móvil ended 2Q13 in a tie holding 25.1 million fixed accesses. Oi leads fixed telephones and América Móvil leads in Pay TV. Both operators have the same number of fixed broadband accesses (5.9 million).

 

 

 

Revenue: Telefônica is first

 

Vivo is the biggest Brazilian Telecommunication Group with net revenue reaching R$ 8.5 billion in 2Q13, but is being threatened by América Móvil (R$ 8.1 billion).

Sky and GVT lead growth

 

Sky led growth in net revenue and GVT in number of accesses in 2Q13, when compared with 2Q12.

 

 

The six operators showed positive growth in revenue in 2Q13 over 2Q12. Only GVT and Oi presented bigger growth in the number of accesses than in revenue.

 

 

Profitability: GVT leads EBITDA margin

 

GVT kept the leadership in EBITDA margin in 2Q13, followed by Vivo and Oi. All the six operators showed drop in their EBITDA margin in comparison with 1Q13.

 

 

 

Telefônica/Vivo presented the biggest profit in 2Q13 (R$ 914 million), followed by TIM (R$ 386 million). Oi had loss of R$ 124 million.

 

 

Investments: Oi is the leader

 

Oi led investments (Capex) in 1S13.

 

Note: América Móvil's investnment was estimated by Teleco. It doesn't include acquisition of frequencies.
