Groups leading Brazilian Telecom in 3Q13

 

In the third quarter of 2013 (3Q13), América Móvil Group was consolidated in the leadership about the total number of accesses and got closer to Vivo in net revenue.

 

GVT led growth (revenue and accesses) and profitability. Oi led in the investments accumulated over the first nine months of the year.

In the first semester of 2011, Teleco started to monitor the performance of Telecom Groups in Brazil through selected indicators. The following shows the results for 3Q13.

 

Number of Accesses: América Móvel is the leader

 

América Móvil (Claro, Embratel/Net) ended 3Q13 counting 93.1 million accesses (Revenue Generating Unit - RGU), increasing the difference to Vivo, which is in the second position (91.7 millions).

Vivo leads mobile accesses.

 

 

 

 

And América Móvil leads fixed accesses counting 25.6 million accesses, followed by Oi with 25.2 millions.

 

 

 

Oi is the lerder in fixed telephony while América Móvil is first in pay TV and fixed broadband.

 

Revenue: Telefônica is the leader, but is being threatened by América Móvil

 

Vivo is the biggest Telecom group in Brazil with net revenue reaching R$ 8.6 billion in 3Q13. However, the company is being threatened by América Móvil (R$ 8.4 billion).

GVT leads growth

 

GVT led the growth in net revenue and in number of accesses in 3Q13, when compared with 3Q12.

 

 

The six operators presented positive growth in revenue in 3Q13 over 3Q12. Only GVT and Oi showed bigger growth in the number of accesses than in revenue.

 

 

Profitability: GVT kept the leadership in EBITDA Margin

 

GVT kept the leadership in EBITDA margin in 3Q13, followed by Oi and Vivo. Only GVT and Oi presented growth in their EBITDA when compared with 2Q13. The other four operators registered drop.

 

 

 

 

Telefônica/Vivo got the biggest profit in 3Q13 (R$ 760 million), followed by TIM (R$ 315 million) and Oi (R$ 172 million).

 

 

Investments: Oi leads

 

Oi led investments (Capex) in the first nine months of the year, followed by América Móvil and Vivo.

 

 

Note: América Móvil’s investments were estimated by Teleco. It doesn’t include payments for frequencies.
