Brazil ended September/2013 counting 20.9 million fixed broadband accesses and density of 10.5 accesses/100 inhab.
Net overtook Oi in 2013 and reached the market share leadership in Brazilian fixed broadband by holding 28.7% of the accesses, followed by Oi (28.5%), Vivo (18.6%) and GVT (12.0%).

Considering Embratel's fixed broadband accesses, América Móvil Group (Embratel/Net) amplifies this leadership to a market share of 29.6%.
Oi still leads when we consider the accesses of Multimedia Communication Service (Serviço de Comunicação Multimídia - SCM), which include broadband and narrowband accesses with speeds inferior to 256 kbps.

Oi is leader having SMC market share of 30.3%, followed by América Móvil (28.4%), Vivo (19.3%) and GVT (11.1%).
Brazil had 21.8 million SCM accesses in Sep/13, from those 20.9 million were fixed broadband accesses.
América Móvil (Embratel/Net) and GVT gained market share in the last 3 years with a strategy of offering high speed internet access focused in covering the main Brazilian cities.
América Móvil is the leader in SCM accesses with speeds between 2 and 12 Mbps while GVT leads among accesses with speeds superior to 12 Mbps. Oi and Vivo lead in speeds lower or equal to 2 Mbps.
The number of cities covered by Net and GVT is, however, small. In the end of Sep/13 (9M13), NET offered fixed broadband inside 137 cities and GVT in 146 cities.
Low capillarity in Brazilian fixed broadband is one of the obstacles to a more accelerated service growth in the country.
Kept the current trends, Brazil would take about 10 years to double its base of fixed broadband accesses and reach density superior to 20 fixed broadband accesses/100 inhab.
