How much will cellular market grow in 2014?
Brazil ended 2013 counting 271.1 million mobile accesses and density of 136.34 cell./100 inhab. (Anatel's preliminary data).
The net adds of 581 mobile accesses in December were the smallest registered in this month since 2002 and were affected by the adjustments promoted by operators in their prepaid bases, in order to avoid paying Fistel about inactive accesses. The inspection fee is paid considering the cellular base in the end of the year, R$ 13.42 for active mobile access.
In line to what happened in the rest of the year, postpaid presented net adds of 1 million mobile accesses in December, while prepaid registered negative net adds (-427 thousand accesses).
By this result, mobile market totalized net adds reaching 9.3 million accesses in 2013 and growth of 3.5%.

Postpaid was having bigger growth than prepaid since 2010. However, since 2012 the differences between the growth rates have been accentuated.

In 2013 postpaid net adds reached 8.6 million mobile accesses, against 700 thousand prepaid.

The drop in prepaid net adds was caused by the maturity of the market, which reached density superior to 130 cell./100 inhab., the reduction in the deadline to turn off inactive accesses promoted by Vivo and the migration of users from prepaid to postpaid controlled plans.
By this result the participation of prepaid in the total of mobile accesses, which hit its maximum in 2009, dropped to 78% in 2013.

These trends are likely to be kept in 2014, considering that cellular market is showing net adds of about 10 million accesses in the year most of them from postpaid segment.
