Claro was net adds leader in in 2013

In 2013, Claro was the net adds leader in mobile telephony. Claro wasn't the leader since 2008.

Holding net adds of 3.5 million mobile net adds in the year, Claro overtook TIM, which was the leader in the three previous years.

Claro's leadership in net adds was conquered due to its performance inside the prepaid segment.Usually, the leader in prepaid net adds is also the leader in total net adds.

Vivo registered negative net adds in prepaid for adopting a shorter deadline (in comparison with other carriers) to turn off inactive mobile accesses and for having encouraged the migration of users from prepaid to postpaid control plans.

Vivo led postpaid net adds for the 5th consecutive year. The net adds of 4.9 million were superior to the net adds gotten by other operators altogether. The factors that contributed to Vivo's good performance inside postpaid segment were the net adds of 1.1 million M2M terminals and broadband terminals (393 thousands).

Claro amplifies the leadership in the process of converting GSM base into 3G by holding net adds of 14.9 million 3G accesses, followed by TIM (11.3 million), Vivo (8.7 million) and Oi (6.9 million). In the end of 2013, 58% of Claro's accesses via handsets were 3G.

In 4G, the leadership in 2013 was conquered by Vivo, which ended the year counting 538 thousand 4G mobile accesses, followed by TIM (405 thousand), Claro (222 thousand) and Oi (145 thousand).

TIM showed good performance in 2013, conquering the second position in total net adds and also in prepaid and postpaid, while Oi lived a transition year with net adds reaching 559 thousand inside prepaid segment and 419 thousand inside postpaid.

Nextel started to operate 3G ending the year counting 318 thousand postpaid mobile accesses, being 218 thousand mobile broadband terminals (modems 3G).
