Vivo leads mobile net adds in Jan/14

 

Brazil started the year registering net adds of 1.25 million mobile accesses, this figure is much superior than what was gotten in Jan/13 (450 thousand).

 

Vivo led mobile growth in january by holding 501 thousand mobile accesses, followed by Claro (330 thousand), Oi (220 thousand), TIM (111 thousand) and Nextel (92 thousand).

 

 

Vivo's leadership was conquered due to its performance in prostpaid, segment in which the company had net adds of 426 thousand accesses, followed by Nextel (92 thousand), Claro (89 thousand), Oi (-12 thousand) and TIM (-34 thousand).

By this result Vivo got market share of 40.2% inside this segment in Jan/14. 31% od Vivo's mobile accesses are postpaid.

Contributed for Vivo's ladership in Jan/14 the fact that presenting positive net adds in prepaid (+75 thousand), what happened in only one of the twelve months of 2013.

 

Nextel's net adds reached 92 thousand postpaid mobile accesses (23 thousandl modems) and so the carrier starts to show significative "share" in net adds in the month. The operatora ended Jan/14 counting 411 thousand postpaid accesses, being 241 thousand broadband terminals (modems 3G).

 

 

Claro led growth in prepaid in the month by having net adds of 241 thousand mobile accesses, followed by Oi (232 thousand) and by TIM (145 thousand).

 

Oi's performance in prepaid in Jan/14 deserves to be highlighted. The net adds of the month were superior to each month of 2013.

 

Oi's good performance in prepaid and Vivo's positive net adds inside this segment contributed to prepaid to present net adds (711 thousand) superior to postpaid's (543 thousand) in Jan/14, what didn't happen since Sep/12.

 

 

4G and 3G

 

Brazil ended Jan/14 with 1.6 million 4G mobile accesses, presenting net adds of 257 thousand 4G accesses in the month. Vivo led net adds, followed by TIM and Claro.

 

 

Brazil still had 158 million GSM mobile accesses in Jan/14, mre than the 98 million 3G mobile accesses. Claro leads this transition process to 3G. The 3G technology answers for 58.5% of Claro's handsets base, but Vivo led the in the number of accesses converted from GSM into 3G (1 million) in the month.
