TIM x Claro: Which company is having the best performance in 2014?

 

TIM and Claro are among the four biggest mobile companies in Brazil.

 

TIM is the leader in prepaid segment and Claro holds the second position in postpaid, placed behind Vivo only.

In 2014, TIM kept focus in prepaid, segment in which the carrier got the biggest part of its net adds in the first nine months of the year (9M14). In Sep/14, 83.7% of TIM's mobile accesses were prepaid, while at Claro these participations reached 78.1%.

Claro changed its strategy in 2014, promoting an adjustment of its prepaid base and increasing the focus on postpaid, like Vivo does.

 

TIM still overtakes Claro in ARPU, but the distance between both operators is shrinking. Note that Claro's ARPU doesn't incorporate long distance revenue, the opposite of what happens with TIM.

 

 

 

 

TIM overtook Claro in net revenue accumulated in the first nine months of the year (9M14). However, Claro's revenue presented growth in this period, while TIM's dropped.
