Groups leaders in Telecom in Brazil in 3Q14

 

América Móvil (Claro/Embratel/Net) led accesses and net revenue in the third quarter of 2014 (3Q14), overtaking Vivo. Vivo would remain as leader in these indicators is it had already concluded the process of purchasing GVT.

 

GVT led growth in accesses and profitability. SKY led revenue growth.

In the first quarter of 2011, Teleco started to monitor the performance of Telecom Groups in Brazil through selected indicators. The following shows the results for 3Q14.

 

 

Number of Accesses: América Móvil is the leader

 

América Móvil (Claro, Embratel/Net) ended 3Q14 counting 98.8 million accesses (Revenue Generating Unit - RGU), followed by Vivo (95.4 millions). After the incorporation of GVT, Vivo will have 103.7 million accesses.

 

 

TIM (75.7 million mobile accesses) occupied the 3rd position in 3Q13, overtaking Oi (75.0 millions).

Vivo is the leader in the total of mobile accesses.

 

 

América Móvil leads fixed accesses - including fixed telephones, fixed broadband accesses and pay TV - counting 29.2 million accesses, followed by Oi with 23.6 million accesses. After the incorporation of GVT, Vivo will occupy the 2nd position with 23.9 million fixed accesses.

 

 

Oi leads fixed telephones and América Móvil in pay TV and fixed broadband.

 

 

Revenue: América Móvil leads

 

In 3Q14, América Móvil started to be the biggest telecom group in Brazil holding net revenue of R$ 8.92 billion but will be overtaken by Vivo again after the incorporation of GVT.

SKY leads revenue growth and GVT is first in accesses

 

SKY led net revenue growth (13.8%) when comparing the results accumulated in the first nine months of the year (3Q14) with the same period of the previous year (3M13).

 

 

GVT led access growth (20%) in this period.

 

 

Profitability: GVT leads EBITDA margin

 

GVT led EBITDA margin (40.0%) followed by Oi (31.7%).

Oi's EBITDA margin growth, since 3Q13 is from extraordinary revenues with the sales of assets like GlobeNet and cell towers. Oi's routine EBITDA margin reached 23.3% in 3Q14.

 

Telefônica/Vivo presented the biggest profit in 3Q14 (R$ 1.0 billion accesses), followed by TIM (R$ 348 millions) and by Oi (R$ 8 millions).
