3G is already the main mobile technology in Brazil

 

2014 will be marked as the year when second generation cell phones, used mainly for voice service, will no longer represent the majority of Brazilian mobile base.

 

3G, technology which offers, besides voice service, mobile broadband, became the main cell phone technology in the country.

 

Counting 132 million mobile accesses in Sep/14, 3G overtook 2G-GSM (126 million accesses).

 

Later 3G advantage was amplified reaching 22 milion mobile accesses in Nov/14.

 

 

2014 was also an year of growth for 4G technology, which offers high speed mobile broadband. It's has got quicker adoption when compared with 3G, counting more than 6 million mobile accesses in it's second year operation, against 4 million registered for 3G in the same period of existence.

 

The migration to 3G/4G is followed by the growth in smatphones sales that in Sep/14 represented more than 80% of the cell phones sold in Brazil (IDC).

 

Nextel, Algar and Claro are ahead in the process of adoption of 3G/4G. These technologies represent more than 75% of these opertors' handsets base.

 

 

Vivo leads 4G having 2.9% of its base of handsets and data terminals, mainly composed by modems.

 

 

Vivo also leads 3G and 4G coverage.
