Telecom Leaders in Brazil (2Q15)

 

The board of Telecom leaders in Brazil in the second quarter of 2015 (2Q15) presented the same resulted registered in the previous quarter, showing Vivo/GVT as leader in three indicators, América Móvil leading two indicators and Oi and SKY lead one.

In the first quarter of 2011, Teleco started to follow Telecom Groups' performance in Brazil by measuring indicators. The following shows the results for 2Q15. The six biggest operators in Brazil were included in this analysis.

 

On 05/28/2015, Telefônica concluded the acquisition of GVT, which became a subsidiary of Telefônica Brasil. The information presented below incorporate GVT as part of Vivo's results in previous quarters.

 

 

 

1) Revenue: Vivo/GVT is the leader

 

Vivo/GVT led net revenue by holding R$ 10.4 billion in 2Q15, followed by América Móvil (Claro, Embratel/Net). After acquiring GVT, Telefônica consolidated itself as the biggest telecom group in the country.

 

 

 

 

2) Revenue Growth: SKY keeps the leadership

 

SKY led net revenue growth (8.9%) when we compare 2Q15 with 2Q14. Oi, TIM and Nextel presented negative growth.

 

 

 

When compared with the previous quarter, América Móvil (0.9%) and Vivo/GVT (0.6%) presented the biggest growth. The other operators registered negative growth.

 

 

 

3) Mobile Market Share: Vivo is the leader

 

Vivo, the market share leader inside Brazilian mobile telephony, led net adds in 2Q15 and gained market share in this period.

 

 

 

 

4) Fixed Telephony Market Share: Oi leads

 

Oi is the fixed telephony leader, but its losing market share and can be overtaken by Vivo/GVT in 2016.

 

 

 

5) Fixed Broadband Market Share: Embratel/Net

 

América Móvil (Embratel/Net) amplified its leadership in fixed broadband market share in 2Q15.

 

 

 

With the incorporation of GVT, Vivo can revert the trend pointing to market share loss inside this segment.

 

 

 

6) Pay TV Market Share: Embratel/Net

 

In 2Q15, América Móvil (Embratel/Net) kept the market share leadership despite of presenting a small market share loss in the period.

 

 

Vivo/GVT consolidated itself in the third position after incorporating GVT.

 

 

 

7) Profitability: Vivo/GVT leads EBITDA Margin

 

Vivo/GVT kept the EBITDA margin leadership in 1Q15 (30.0%), followed by TIM (29.2%).

 

Note: We consider Oi's routine EBITDA margin.

 

América Móvil showed significative improvement in its EBITDA margin.
