Fixed broadband is repeating in 2015 the growth registered in 2014

The economic crisis doesn't seem to be affecting the growth fixed broadband in Brazil. Net adds accumulated in the first eight months of 2015 were very similar to the performance registered in equal period of 2014.

The three main fixed broadband operators of the country showed reduction in their net adds in this period, was compensated by a bigger growth of operators.

The leader Embratel/Net gained market share in this period while Vivo/GVT and Oi lost it.

However, it's important to stress that fixed broadband net adds of 1.8 million in 2014, were inferior to the average of 2.4 million accesses of the four previous years.

Kept the current growth pace of fixed broadband in the country, 10 years would be necessary so density (which today reaches 12 fixed broadband accesses/100 inhabitants) could jump to the current fixed telephones density (22 accesses /100 inhab.).

Besides, accelerating the evolution of fixed broadband speed in Brazil would also be necessary. In Aug/15, 64.55% of the total of fixed broadband accesses were faster than 2 Mbps, but only 23.9% presented speed superior to 12 Mbps.

Vivo/GVT is the operator holding the biggest participation of accesses that have speed above 12 Mbps (41.6%). On the other hand, the speed of 44.3% of its accesses is inferior to 2 Mbps.

At Embratel/Net, 82.3% of the accesses reach speeds superior to 2 Mbps and 28.6% are faster than 12 Mbps. At Oi, 48.1% of the accesses still have speeds inferior to 2 Mbps.

Accesses of xDSL technology still don't represent the majority of the fixed broadband in the country (53%). However, operators include FTTN accesses in this category.

Cable comes in second position holding 32.2% of participation, followed by small providers of spread-spectrum radios (6.1%). Accesses with fiber represent 4.7% of the total of fixed broadband accesses in Brazil.
