The year started with smaller growth in comparison with 2015: TIM leads Mobile Telephony

2016 started and the growth presented in January was inferior to the figure registered in Jan/15. The net adds of the main telecom services were negative in the month.

TIM was the leader in mobile telephony growth (+670 thousand) and Vivo presents less losses in fixed accesses (-30 thousand), according to the analysis below.

Mobile Telephony

TIM led net adds in Jan/16 and was the only company, among the five main mobile operators, to present positive growth in net adds in the month.

Prepaid was responsible for TIM's result, since it was the only carrier to present positive net adds in the month.

TIM's positive net adds can be related to an effort made by the operator in order to increase the distance to Claro, keeping so the econd position in Brazilian mobile market share. TIM's advantage which had dropped to 256 thousand mobile accesses in Dec/15 resumed growth and reached 1.9 million mobile accesses in Jan/16.

These results show that the reduction in prepaid base didn't end after the cancellation of 12.1 million inactive prepaid accesses carried out in in December and that may continue in 2016.

Claro led postpaid net adds by presenting, with Oi, bigger growth in comparison with Jan/15.

In this scenario, only mobile accesses with 4G technology registered positive growth (+2.6 million).

Fixed Broadband

In fixed broadband, Embratel/Net and Vivo presented reduction in net adds. Oi improved its performance.

Pay TV

Oi led Pay TV growth in Jan/16, whilw the other operators presented negative net adds.

The biggest fall continues to be in satellite pay TV (DTH), with negative net adds reaching -67 thousand.

Fixed Telephony

In fixed telephony the loss occurred in the incumbents (Oi and Vivo) and in the CLECs (Embratel/Net).
