Vivo leads 4G growth in the first five months of 2016
Vivo leads 4G growth accumulated from January to May 2016, counting 3.9 million net adds.
However, despite this result, Vivo lost 4G market share in this period.
This loss of Vivo's maket share can be associated to the fact that the company provides 4G in less cities (191) than TIM (513) and Claro (198).
In 2015, TIM reached the leadership in 4G coverage and has plans to amplify this coverage to 1 thousand cities, until the end of 2016. The four main operators must to cover 4G in all the Brazilian cities having more than 100 thousand inhabitants.
4G presented net adds of 11 million mobile accesses accumulated in the first five months of 2016, while other technologies registered negative net adds. The loss of 2G accesses wasn't bigger because, in May, Oi reclassified as 2G a great part of 3G mobile accesses.
Teleco estimates that 4G will become the main mobile technology in Brazil in 2019.
