Telecom Leaders in Brazil in 3Q20

 

The list of Telecom leaders in Brazil in 3Q20 remained stable, with Vivo and Claro leading in two of the eight indicators, and TIM, Oi, Algar and Competitiva in each one.

In the 1st quarter of 2011, Teleco started monitoring the performance of Telecom Groups in Brazil through selected indicators. The results for each indicator are presented below. Included in this analysis were operators or groups that had net revenues in excess of R$ 2 billion in the country in 2019.

 

Claro's results incorporate Nextel since 1Q19.

 

 

1) Revenue: Vivo is the leader

 

Vivo led in net revenue with R$ 10.8 billion in 3Q20 followed by Claro, which approached Vivo with the incorporation of Nextel. Oi and TIM combined have lower revenue than Claro.

Vivo is the leader in mobile revenue (R$ 7.2 billion) and Claro in fixed services revenue (R$ 5.3 billion).

 

 

2) Revenue Growth: Algar leads

 

Algar led in net revenue growth (10.0%), followed by Claro (1.3%) and TIM (1.2%). Contributing to this result was the expansion of its offer as an SCM provider outside its concession area. Vivo and Oi showed negative growth in net revenue.

3) Mobile: Vivo is the leader in Market Share and Receita

 

Vivo, leader in cellular market share in Brazil and Claro in second place gained market share in the quarter. TIM (22.4%) has been losing market share since 1Q20.

Vivo is also the leader in mobile net revenue, recovering from the drop in the previous quarter. Compared with 3Q19, Claro's mobile net revenue grew 10.0%, TIM (0.3%) and Vivo (0.0%). Oi (-3.1%) presented a loss.

4) Fixed: Claro is the leader in Market share and Revenue

 

Claro is the leader in fixed services market share with a total of 26.1 million accesses in 3Q20.

Note: TIM, Algar and other competitors were included in others as they had a market share of less than 5% in fixed services.

 

A Claro é líder em receita líquida de serviços fixos com R$ 5,3 bilhões, mas continuou com crescimento Claro is the leader in fixed services net revenue with R$ 5.3 billion but continued with negative growth of (-5.21%) in 3Q20/3Q19, together with Vivo and Oi. The set of other operators showed positive growth in this comparison.

5) Fixed Broadband Market Share: Competitives

 

Competitive products continue to stand out in terms of fixed broadband market share in 3Q20 with 13.6 million accesses and expanding their market share.

Note: Competitives are all operators, except Claro, Vivo and Oi. Algar (2.0%) and TIM (1.8%) were classified as competitives because they have a market share of less than 5% in fixed broadband.

Oi and Claro lost market share despite having presented positive net additions of 70 and 83 thousand accesses respectively.

 

6) Pay TV Market Share: Claro

 

Claro continued to lead Pay TV in 3Q20 with 7.2 million subscribers and 47.6% market share, falling in the quarter.

Sky and Oi gained market share in 3Q20.

 

 

7) Fixed Telephones Market Share: Oi leads

 

Oi (9.6 million) maintained the leadership in fixed telephony market share in 3Q20 which was conquered in the previous quarter. Vivo maintained the second position (9.3 million). The three operators lost subscribers in the quarter.

8) Profitability: TIM leads EBITDA Margin

 

TIM maintained its leadership in EBITDA margin. Algar, Claro and Vivo were practically tied in this quarter.
