Telecom Leaders in Brazil in 3Q21

The leader board in Telecom in Brazil in 3Q21 remained stable, showing a more balanced situation with Vivo, Claro and Competitives leading in two indicators each and TIM and Oi leading in one each.

The figures referring to Competitives (revenue and number of accesses) are underestimated due to under-notification, which affects their positioning and market share in the indicators. While in August 7,100 competitives reported having 18.7 million accesses, in September 6.7 thousand reported having 18.3 million accesses.

Vivo keeps the leadership in mobile net revenue. Claro, with the incorporation of Nextel, surpassed TIM and consolidated itself in the second position.

4) Fixed: Claro is the leader in Market share and Competitives lead Revenue

Claro leads fixed accesses market share, with a total of 25.7 million in 3Q21, but the company has been losing market share. Competitives occupy the second position in fixed services market share, ahead of Oi and Vivo. Oi was the only carrier to win market share along the quarter, increasing the difference to Vivo.

Note: TIM and Algar were included in the Competitives group for presenting market share smaller than 5% in fixed services.

Competitives' market share is actually higher, due to underreporting in September.

Competitives (without Algar, TIM and SKY) led fixed services net revenue with R$ 5.1 billion, overtaking Claro in this quarter. Vivo occupies the third position.

Note: All broadband operators are classified as Competitives, exept Claro, Vivo and Oi. In this graphic Competitives revenue does not include revenue from Algar, TIM and SKY

5) Fixed Broadband Market Share: Competitives

Competitives lead fixed broadband market share with 18.3 million accesses in 3Q21.

Note: All broadband operators are classified as Competitives, exept Claro, Vivo and Oi. In 2Q21 it considerated Competitives' accesses of May.

Accesses of fixed broadband Competitives reported by Anatel for September reflect this underreporting. Meanwhile, in August, 7.1 thousand competitives reported having 18.7 million accesses. In September, 6.7 thousand reported having 18.3 million.

6) Pay TV Market Share: Claro

Since 3Q21, Anatel counts DTH users, that acquired reception kit (Antenna, decoder and installation), as Pay TV accesses even though they do not pay for the service and have access only to open channels as well as mandatory ones.

This change in criteria benefited mainly Oi, which increased its market share to 30.3%. Claro maintained its leadership in TV with 7.1 million subscribers, but lost market share.

7) Fixed Telephones Market Share: Oi is the leader

Oi maintained its leadership in fixed telephony market share with 8.9 million fixed telephones in 3Q21, despite losing market share. Claro consolidated itself in the second position ahead of Vivo, which has been losing market share sharply.

8) Profitability: TIM leads EBITDA Margin

TIM keeps EBITDA margin leadership in 3Q21, with Algar in the second position and Claro, which surpassed Vivo in 2Q21, in the third place.

Note: This analysis considers the routine or normalized EBITDA Margin. SKY does not report this indicator.

Oi improved its EBITDA margin returning to the same level of 1Q20.
